Flavius Josephus - Histoire des Juifs - [Engravings] - 1706

DESCRIPTION: Delve into the most striking narratives of the ancient world with the foremost chronicler of Judea and Rome! From the sacred origins of the Hebrew people and biblical prophecies to the brutality of sieges and the monumental fall of Jerusalem, this monumental work offers an unrivaled panorama of classical history. Flavius Josephus (37–c. 100 AD), the renowned, scholarly, and authentic Jewish historian, provides the definitive written testimony on the religious, political, and military conflicts that marked a before and after in the Near East and the Roman Empire. Each volume is a direct immersion into dynastic intrigues, ancient miracles, and the great battles of antiquity. I present at auction a Complete 5-Volume Set of "The Works of Flavius Josephus." The work was printed in the Year of Our Lord 1706 in Paris and, therefore, is 320 years old. The complete work masterfully covers Josephus’s major treatises, translated directly from the original Greek and diligently revised based on contemporary sources: + Antiquities of the Jews: Occupies the first 3 volumes of our copy. Divided into twenty books, it covers memorable events, prosperities, and adversities from the very Creation of the World. + The Wars of the Jews: The stark chronicle of the conflict with the Romans, starting with its background up to the final destruction of Jerusalem by Titus, under the reigns of Vespasian and Titus (organized into seven books). It occupies the fourth tome and most of the fifth. + The Martyrdom of the Maccabees. + The Embassy of Philo: From the Jews of Alexandria to Emperor Caligula. You will find this work at the end of the fifth tome. + The Life of Flavius Josephus: His autobiography. ONE-OF-A-KIND COPY FOR SALE IN THE WORLD: What makes this edition truly special and sought-after is that, according to my research, the book on auction is the only complete copy of this five-volume edition for sale in the world (you can verify it yourself). Only two loose volumes are on sale for 126€ at a French bookstore and 358€ at a North American bookstore. In short, bidding on a rare bibliographic jewel. PUBLICATION YEAR AND PLACE: Paris, 1706.
