Finely Polished Schorl (Black Tourmaline) Crystals...

A masterfully carved obelisk, uniting geology with lapidary art. — This specimen represents a masterfully carved obelisk from a pegmatitic rock of rare beauty, predominantly composed of salmon-pink potassium feldspar and quartz, which constitute the lithologic matrix. Within this rich composition, significant and well-distributed inclusions of schorl, the most common variety of black tourmaline, are observed, manifesting in massive and fragmented forms. The obelisk-cut, with its polished faces, exceptionally enhances the pronounced color contrast between the deep black schorl and the pinkish and whitish tones of the pegmatitic matrix. The granite-like texture, characteristic of coarse-grained rocks formed during slow cooling of magma, is splendidly highlighted by the polish, revealing the complex geological history of the specimen. The presence of black tourmaline, here in the massive form named schorl, is typical of pegmatitic environments, where boron-rich minerals and other rare earths crystallize from late hydrothermal fluids. The dimensions and distribution of schorl masses within the feldspar and quartz offer a direct view of mineral growth processes in magmatic systems. From an aesthetic point of view, the color harmony and the dynamism of the irregular schorl shapes set in the light matrix confer on the obelisk a notable visual impact. The specimen is both a decorative object of great value and an educational illustration of the complex geological formations typical of Brazilian pegmatites. The surfaces are impeccably polished, with angles and edges well defined, bearing testimony to high-quality workmanship. The piece is stable and self-supporting, ready to be displayed without the need for additional supports, making it an immediate and striking addition to any collection or setting. There are no significant alterations or restorations visible. This obelisk, more than a simple object, is a tangible expression of the deep geological processes that have shaped the Earth's crust. The combination of minerals in such a particular formation and the meticulous workmanship make it a highly desirable collectible, appreciated for its intrinsic beauty as well as its scientific and educational value. Its origin in Brazil, a locality famous for its pegmatites, further enhances its collecting appeal.
