Rare c.1920 Art Deco Porcelain Half Doll – Complete Green Velvet Pincushion – 18.5cm Full description Beautiful and rare circa 1920 Art Deco porcelain half doll pincushion, surviving as a complete and highly decorative piece with a large deep green velvet pincushion forming the lady’s full skirt. The porcelain half doll depicts an elegant 1920s lady with short waved hair and delicately hand-painted facial features. She is beautifully posed with one arm raised to her hair and the other gracefully held across her body. Around her shoulders is a dramatic black feather decoration, which gives the figure a particularly glamorous Art Deco appearance. The porcelain figure is incorporated into an impressive deep olive/forest-green velvet pincushion, shaped to resemble a voluminous full skirt. The cushion retains its lovely sculptural form and is shown with long decorative hatpins in the photographs. Complete antique half-doll pincushions of this size and quality are increasingly difficult to find, as many surviving examples are now found only as the separate porcelain figure. The porcelain appears to be in excellent condition with no obvious chips, cracks or repairs visible. The green velvet remains very attractive and displays well, with only minor age-related wear, dust/lint and variations to the velvet pile consistent with its age. The delicate black feather decoration shows some natural age-related wear. Please examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description. Dating to approximately the 1920s, this is a particularly attractive and rare complete example and would make a wonderful addition to a collection of antique porcelain half dolls, Art Deco boudoir pieces, antique sewing accessories or early 20th-century decorative objects.
