Figurine - Maria Bambina in campana di vetro - 30 cm - blown

Ancient Baby Mary in a Cradle under a Mouth-Blown Glass Bell – Sacred Art and Popular Devotion – Late 19th / Early 20th Century Suggestive object of Italian sacred art and popular devotion: an antique effigy depicting Baby Mary in swaddling clothes, delicately laid inside her cradle. The statuette features finely modeled and painted facial features, wrapped according to tradition in a bonnet and lace and tulle garments of the period. The cradle stands out for its rich beaded gilded texture, supported by an elegant stand in shaped metal wire with geometric scrolls, typical of refined convent or artisanal productions at the turn between the late 19th and early 20th century. The composition is embellished by small antique white flowers at the base and rests on an oval, modanated and patinated base. The entire scene is enclosed and protected inside its splendid original mouth-blown glass bell. In the past these artifacts were jealously kept in homes as symbols of family protection and good luck; today they represent highly sought-after collectible pieces for their extraordinary emotional charge, aesthetic appeal, and historical significance. The object remains in good aesthetic and structural condition overall, considering the era and the great fragility of the materials. There is a characteristic air bubble inside the glass, entirely due to the mouth-blown artisanal process of the time. Additionally, the lower edge of the glass bell is not cut perfectly flush, but shows the typical irregularities, asymmetries, and hot-cut roughness characteristic of historical workmanship. These details should not be considered defects, but essential elements that certify authenticity and period craftsmanship. The fabrics, lace, and the gilded metal structure display a fascinating patina and natural signs of time, which do not impair but rather enhance the overall beauty of the piece. Please study the photo gallery carefully to verify the described details.
