Historic Note why this car was painted in matt-black? Here is why: Count Giovanni Volpi di Misurata’s Scuderia Serenissima did not officially race all-black Ferraris as a matter of team livery; however, the color black is linked to two famous anecdotes from the 1960s stemming from complex relationships with Enzo Ferrari and other figures of the era. Gianni Agnelli’s playful "sabotage" of the Breadvan: The most famous episode involves the legendary Ferrari 250 GT Drogo, known as the "Breadvan." Originally red—intended to race at Le Mans in 1962 under the Serenissima banner—the car was later used by Count Volpi as a road car in Monte Carlo. One evening, Volpi lent the vehicle to Gianni Agnelli. Agnelli, poking fun at the car's rear styling—which he claimed resembled a hearse—ordered his butler to paint it black as a prank on the Count. The paint ran out prematurely, leaving the car partially black and creating one of the most bizarre chapters in its history. Enzo Ferrari’s "blacklist" and the Count’s road cars: Count Volpi had a particular fondness for black for his personal cars (such as his ultra-rare Ferrari 400 Superamerica Coupé Aerodinamico, ordered in *Nero Tropicale*). In 1961, Volpi funded the ATS racing team, founded by the engineers who had defected from Ferrari following the famous "palace revolt." Furious at this betrayal, Enzo Ferrari placed Volpi on a literal "blacklist," refusing to sell him the newly launched 250 GTOs. This complete rift drove Serenissima to race with cars modified in-house (like the Breadvan) and, subsequently, to break away from the Prancing Horse entirely to build prototypes using their own engines.
