Mies van der Rohe, the great architect, summed up modernist architecture and art with a famous quote: “Less is more.” This was the guiding principle of the 20th-century avant-garde. Simple forms and clean designs were meant to shape the world of tomorrow. Now we have long since been living in yesterday’s “tomorrow,” and every now and then, everyone probably longs for a little “more” in life! This ring is more—in every respect. This cocktail ring from the 1950s captivates with its extravagant design, its rich play of colours, and its impressive size. At the center of the cushion-shaped ring face are three large, natural sapphires, cut into beautiful octagons, which together weigh more than 11.80 ct. What makes these sapphires special is that they are untreated—meaning they have not been heated or artificially enhanced in colour or clarity. This makes them rare collector’s items. The three blue stars are magnificently accented. Delicate brilliant-cut diamonds with a combined total weight of 1.55 ct form a sparkling frame. What we see is a symphony of gold, blue, and white—colours that complement each other superbly in surprising ways. The ring makes a spectacular, captivating impression. Despite the abundance of materials, the overall look is harmonious. The ring is in excellent condition and is just the thing for those days when you want to go the extra mile!
