Oil on canvas depicting a three-masted sailing ship with square sails, navigating rough seas. On the left, a second smaller sailing vessel; in the sky, seagulls and clouds with pink reflections. Signed at the bottom right: the signature reads “R.” followed by a surname in cursive not fully decipherable. No definite attribution. Technique: oil on canvas, wooden frame visible on the back, with image transparency on the reverse. Realistic impasto of a decorative character, typical of commercial marine painting from the second half of the 20th century (approximately 1950–1980). Frame in carved wood with rocaille motifs, gilded in mecca, contemporaneous or slightly later. Measurements taken with a ruler in the photos (approximate, to be confirmed with a ruler zero at the outer edge): with frame: about 105 × 75 cm (width × height) canvas only, estimated: about 89 × 59 cm (moulding about 8 cm per side) frame thickness: a few centimeters, not measured Conditions, to be read together with the photos. The photographs are an integral part of the description. Frame damaged: loss and flaking of the gilding at the bottom right corner, wear and small gaps along the edges. On the lower part of the canvas, small micro-holes and loss of color in the sea, visible in detail. Canvas overall taut, without evident tears. Surface with normal age-related wear. No restoration claimed. Sold with frame, as photographed. Shipping in rigid packaging.
