European School (XIX-XX) - The Bird

This oil-on-canvas still life depicts a hunting scene (nature morte de chasse / jagdstillleben), featuring a freshly bagged bird of prey—such as a buzzard or hawk—draped across a table or ledge against a dark, moody background. The bird is rendered with loose, expressive brushwork, capturing the textured patterns of its brown, grey, and white mottled feathers. One of its wings is lifted and splayed upward, creating a dynamic, sculptural silhouette against the shadowy wall, while its head and lower body rest downward onto a rustic wooden surface. The canvas is housed in an ornate, heavy gilt-wood frame featuring classical decorative molding, leaf-and-dart patterns, and a multi-tiered inner bevel that adds depth and structural elegance to the presentation. There is sort of crack on the paint o that can be seen from the photos.
