Étienne-Victor Exbrayat (1879-1914) - Religious plaque

Art Nouveau silver religious plaque – Virgin Mary – Étienne-Victor Exbrayat (1879-1914) Beautiful silver religious plaque, signed E. EXBRAYAT, by the French sculptor and medalist Étienne-Victor Exbrayat (1879-1914), of whom several works are kept at the Petit Palais in Paris. In bas-relief, it depicts the crowned Virgin Mary with her hands crossed over her chest, in an elegant composition with floral motifs characteristic of Art Nouveau. The Latin inscription « VIRGO VIRGINUM » (Virgin of Virgins) appears in the lower part. Era: early 20th century, circa 1900-1914. Material: silver positively tested, fineness not determined. Excellent condition, old patina. The reverse shows its former filling material. A refined piece of Art Nouveau sacred metalwork, signed by a well-known French artist, particularly interesting for collectors of sacred art and antique medals.
