Ethiopian crystal opal – exceptional harlequin color play with intense red

This exceptional Crystal-Opal natural piece from Ethiopia impresses with an unusually intense and very broad play-of-color, clearly visible from both views in an impressive way. The translucent to partially transparent opal body possesses a warm, honey-yellow to greenish-gray base color and is traversed by a spectacular fire of colors. Especially dominant are bright greens, reds, oranges, blues, and turquoises, which wander across the surface in numerous small, clearly delineated flashes of color. The intense red and orange appear particularly fiery and, together with the strong green, create an unusually strong contrast, while blue and turquoise color reflections give the stone additional depth. Characteristic is the preserved natural matrix or the host rock, which partially surrounds the opal and thus preserves the original character of the specimen. The polished areas show remarkable depth and a strong gloss, making the color play seem to glow from the inside of the opal. Depending on lighting and viewing angle, the appearance changes noticeably: on one side, large green-orange and red fire zones dominate, while another view shows a particularly dense mosaic of red, green, and blue color points. It is precisely this changing color distribution that makes the piece especially interesting and ensures that from different viewing directions it reveals new details again and again. The natural, irregular shape, the partially preserved matrix, and the intense color effect combine to form a very characterful collector’s item with an exceptionally decorative aura. Notably, there is a high variety of color within a single stone: vivid neon green, electric blue, bright turquoise, intense fire red, orange, and golden-yellow reflections appear together and create an exceptionally lively play of colors.
