Escuela Realista Europea (XX) - Salón Costumbrista

Title: Interior of a Catalan living room ㅤ School: Catalan School (20th century) ㅤ Style: Realism of daily life with Modernist influences ㅤ Technique: Watercolor on heavyweight paper. ㅤ Condition: Generally good apparent condition, with slight signs of aging in the paper and in the framing. ㅤ Circle and artistic influence: Work related to the tradition of Catalan genre painting and to the representation of domestic interiors developed during modernism and the first third of the 20th century. The attention to furniture, decorative elements and the intimate atmosphere shows affinities with the artistic sensibility of Santiago Rusiñol and with interior painting linked to the Catalan bourgeois environments. Influences of architectural drawing and genre illustration are also recognized. ㅤ The composition represents the interior of a traditional Catalan living room, characterized by abundant decoration and the presence of numerous pieces of furniture and crafts. ㅤ The space appears organized through a perspective that directs the gaze from the foreground toward a room at the back. The wooden beam ceiling, the tiled floor and the antique-looking furniture contribute to create a cozy atmosphere with a historical character. ㅤ The walls are decorated with an extensive collection of ceramic plates, many of them in blue and white tones, accompanied by ornamental objects, sculptures and different handicrafts. ㅤ On the right stands a set of traditional furniture, formed by an upholstered sofa, small tables and various decorative pieces. In the background one can see cupboards, display cabinets and other elements that enrich the scene. ㅤ The artist employs a meticulous technique, combining drawing strokes with delicate color applications. The palette is dominated by grays, blues and earthy tones, which reinforce the sense of age and depth of the interior. ㅤ The work stands out for its descriptive richness and the documentary interest of the representation, evoking traditional domestic interiors and the taste for decorative arts. ㅤ It is presented with an elegant gilded wooden frame, wide profile and softly ornamented corners. It includes a broad cream-colored mat, which visually separates the work from the frame and provides a balanced presentation. ㅤ Observations: Work signed in the lower left corner. Watercolor with genre and architectural themes, of particular interest for the representation of furniture and traditional decorative elements. ㅤ The work may incur damages during transport even with proper packaging.
