The treatment of light, the reflections on the metal jug, and the attention given to the different textures also reveal the continuity of the naturalist European still-life tradition, reinterpreted through a freer and more decorative execution. ㅤ The composition presents an autumn-themed still life arranged on a dark table covered by an elaborate white lace tablecloth. On it appear several chestnuts, some opened and others still inside their burr, accompanied by two apples in warm reddish-orange tones. A metal jug located in the upper right introduces a vertical counterpoint and provides cool reflections that contrast with the earthy and warm tones of the fruits. ㅤ The careful rendering of the lace, the metallic surfaces, and the different textures of the chestnuts evidence an interest in detail and light effects. The dark background concentrates attention on the foreground elements and emphasizes the volume of the objects, while the horizontal distribution of the fruits provides stability and balance to the composition. ㅤ The work is presented with a wide classical frame, richly moulded and finished in golden tones.
