Escuela Impresionista Española (XX) - Paisaje urbano

Title: Urban Landscape ㅤ School: European School (20th century) ㅤ Style: Urban Impressionism ㅤ Technique: Watercolor on paper ㅤ State: Condition in keeping with its age. ㅤ Circle and artistic influence: Work stylistically related to the European tradition of urban and genre watercolor, especially currents interested in representing the architecture and daily life of Mediterranean cities. Its painterly language shows affinities with impressionist watercolor and with the tradition of urban illustration developed during the 20th century, where color transparency and the spontaneity of drawing play a fundamental role. ㅤ The composition represents a narrow street of traditional architecture, flanked by multi-story buildings, wrought-iron balconies and windows with colored shutters. In the foreground a male figure walks, while in the background several figures converse in a sunlit area of the street. ㅤ Architectural perspective, reinforced by an arch crossing the upper part of the scene, directs the eye toward the center of the composition. ㅤ The artist uses a palette of ochres, browns, greens and soft reddish and bluish tones, taking advantage of the transparency of watercolor to reproduce the interaction between sunlight and the shadows cast by the buildings. The result is a notably charming genre-scene urban view with atmospheric sensitivity. ㅤ It is presented with a decorative frame of textured gold finish, dark outer profile and wide white mat, which provides luminosity and enhances the delicacy of the watercolor. ㅤ Observations: The work may incur damage during transport even with proper packaging.
