Title: Portrait in Blue ㅤ School: European Fauvist School (20th century) ㅤ Style: Fauvism / Expressionism ㅤ Technique: Oil on panel ㅤ Condition: Good overall state of preservation, with signs of age and wear appropriate to its era. ㅤ Circle and artistic influence: The work is situated within the European Fauvist and expressionist tradition developed during the first decades of the 20th century. The free and non-naturalistic treatment of color, especially visible in the blues, purples, yellows and greens used to build the face, refers to the chromatic investigations of French Fauvism and its later assimilation by different European expressionist currents. The energetic brushwork and simplification of volumes show a conception of portraiture in which plastic and psychological intensity prevails over strictly academic representation. ㅤ Male portrait of markedly expressive character, executed with broad, visible and spontaneous brushstrokes. The face occupies practically the entire pictorial space and is built through planes of contrasting color, dispensing with a naturalistic reproduction of flesh tones. Ochre and yellow tones combine with greens, blues and violets, generating strong chromatic contrasts and reinforcing the intensity of the subject's gaze. ㅤ The background is resolved in an equally free manner, through large areas of bluish gray and earthy tones that envelop the figure without introducing additional narrative elements. This simplification concentrates all attention on the expression of the portrait subject and on the painting's own materiality. The execution preserves an immediate and gestural character, especially appreciable in the hair, beard, and peripheral areas of the face. ㅤ The work is presented with a frame of notable decorative presence, composed of a wide moulding with a veneered wood finish in brown tones, combined with gilded profiles and light-aged interior mouldings.
