emil battiste - disegno bozzetto rolex cosmograph...

Original sketch drawing of a Rolex Cosmograph from the Emil Battiste workshop. The work features all the characteristics typical of professional presentation sketches used in the advertising and luxury sectors in the fifties and sixties: detailed study of the watch, promotional graphic elements, handwritten annotations, Rolex at that period sought to promote its watches through important icons (politicians, actors, and famous brands); in our case with the Ferrari brand, with the legendary Ferrari 250 GTO The typical text of iconic Rolex advertisements reads: Two legends of speed and precision meet on the same axis of time. Created for those who measure victory in seconds The technique is traceable to a professional advertising gouache with ink and tempera interventions, pencil, made for purposes of design, commercial presentation or development of promotional campaigns. Emil Battiste was one of the most important jewelers in New York and a dealer operating in New York, associated with a clientele belonging to the most important financial, entrepreneurial and institutional circles of the city. The historical information available today indeed links his name to prominent figures of American high society of the period, including members of the Rockefeller, Kennedy families and other important U.S. economic groups. The drawing is signed at the bottom right. The opening sheet of the Rolex Emil Battiste collection is not for sale; it is a testament to the Rolex dealer and the intended destination of the sketch.
