Elegant Necklace with Emerald & Diamonds Made of Antique Elements

Pieces of jewellery that combine fragments of older jewels to create something new are called "mariage", from the French word for wedding, marriage. This is just such a mariage: Because the necklace, which presents an intensely green glowing emerald and sparkling diamonds, combines elements that were originally created separately. A delicate, modern platinum chain initially bears a sparkling row of diamonds. The 21 transitional-cut stones are set in white gold on a gallery of yellow gold. At their center, another, slightly larger diamond leads to a pendant. This is made from platinum on yellow gold, also set with diamonds, but now in an old cut or single cut, and bears the high-quality emerald in its center. The different processing of the individual parts, here in white gold on yellow gold, then again in platinum on yellow gold, as well as the different cuts of the diamonds already show that the individual parts did not originally form a single piece of jewellery. However, the pendant and the row of diamonds were created very close in time to each other, the pendant in the years c. 1910, the row of diamonds probably in the 1920s. The two elements therefore go very well together and their cool, precious look complements each other wonderfully: something new and beautiful has indeed emerged from the mariage. A new necklace that gives the antique elements a new lease of life. We have added the delicate platinum chain to both fragments.
