Elegant necklace made from an antique element with diamonds, gold

A magnificent lily shape is attached to the center of a handcrafted white gold chain. Large diamond roses form the setting on the surface adorned with milgrains. Each of these diamonds is individually faceted, some of the stones are round, some are oval, and an old-cut diamond is added as the largest stone. Three teardrop-shaped pearls are added as shimmering additions. Diamonds are cut into numerous shapes, the best known today being the brilliant. However, in earlier centuries, cuts other than the perfectly round brilliant cut were the method of choice. In the 16th century, for example, rose cut diamonds were usually faceted. Numerous famous gemstones such as the "Orloff" or the "Grand Mogul" were cut in this style. The rose cut is characterized by the fact that the top of the diamond is faceted in a star shape, while the underside remains flat. This creates a very specific, soft shimmer that differs significantly from the sparkle of modern diamonds. The centerpiece of the necklace is a fragment of a larger piece of jewellery and was created in the early years of the 20th century. It was later transformed into a necklace. The white gold chain was certainly created later and the pearls were only added more recently, as they are freshwater cultured pearls, which have only been available for a few decades. The necklace came to us from Amsterdam, where it was probably made; the hallmarks on the chain allow us to locate it in the Netherlands with certainty.
