EGYPTIAN GOLD SWIVEL RING WITH STEATITE SCARAB ENGRAVED WITH HIEROGLYPHIC

Middle Kingdom, ca. 2055 - 1790 BC. A gold swivel ring with a substantial round-section hoop, its terminals wrapped with tightly coiled wire. The steatite scarab is mounted on a transverse pin between the terminals, with a carved convex back and a flat underside engraved with a hieroglyphic inscription. Size: D:13.83mm / US: 2 3/4 / UK: E 1/2; Weight: 4.9g Provenance: Private London collection; previously acquired in Brussels, Belgium; initially from a Swiss private collection (1901–1981).
