École expressionniste (XX) - Rue sous la pluie - NO RESERVE

Interesting painting from the European 20th-century expressionist school, executed with a free technique and markedly gestural, depicting an evocative urban scene on a rainy day. The composition shows a street flanked by buildings that progressively blur among the rain, dampness and an almost nebulous atmosphere. Several human figures traverse the scene, reduced practically to silhouettes, reinforcing the sense of loneliness and melancholy that dominates the whole. The work is situated within figurative expressionism with urban-themed subjects, where the artist deliberately moves away from a meticulous representation of architecture to focus on capturing the atmosphere. The loose brushwork, the partially diluted forms and the predominance of blacks, grays, greens and blues create an image of notable expressive force. It is especially interesting the treatment of light on the wet pavement, as well as the mist and rain effects that envelop the buildings. The small warm points of illumination that appear in some windows contrast with the overall darkness of the composition and add depth to the scene. The work appears signed in the lower right corner, although the signature could not be identified with certainty. Regarding its state of conservation, it shows signs typical of the passage of time. On the back there are remnants and moisture marks, clearly noticeable in the photographs. It is recommended to carefully review all images, since they form an integral part of the description and show the current condition of the piece. The work is presented framed. The frame is included as a gift, without commercial value, and is not considered an integral part of the work. Any possible damage it might suffer during transport will not be grounds for a claim. Overall, it is an attractive painting with a strongly expressionist character, especially notable for its nocturnal and rainy atmosphere, its chromatic intensity and the sense of mystery conveyed by the urban scene.
