This fine 17th-century cabinet portrait depicts Philip William, Prince of Orange (1554–1618), the eldest son of William the Silent. Executed in oil on a compact 24 x 19 cm oak panel, the work aligns with the precise painting style of the Dutch Golden Age and follows the famous courtly iconography of Michiel Jansz. van Mierevelt. The portrait stands as a clear testament to the painter's technical skill. With controlled virtuosity, the artist captures the exact textile contrast between the starched, geometric folds of the lace ruff and the heavy, opulent texture of the garment.
