With 40 hand-colored lithographs, most of them bearing the artist's blind stamp, folding plate with facsimile of Turkish passport at the end (partly hand-colored), 12 large lithograph vignettes in the text. Dupré (1789-1837) reached Kerkyra in early March 1819. Afterwards, he went to Ioannina, traversed continental Greece and arrived in Athens in mid-April. Two months later he departed for Constantinople, where he stayed until September. In the cities that he visited he was received by the local ruling class and he met important foreigners who where then in the Orient. His pure philhellenic sentiments and his love for the land and people are apparent in his text and lithographs. Author: DUPRÉ, Louis.
