Precis des rapports de l’Agence du clergé de France, par ordre de matières The “Precis des rapports de l’Agence du clergé de France, par ordre de matières” is a major historical work published in 1786 in Paris by the printer Guillaume Desprez. The work gathers and synthesizes ecclesiastical matters handled by the General Agency of the Clergy of France over more than a century, from 1660 to 1780. At the request of the Archbishop of Arles in 1755, this organizing work was entrusted to Messrs. Du Saulzet and Gandin to structure and make accessible the voluminous dossiers, memoirs, petitions, and consultations managed by the agents general of the clergy under the Ancien Régime. The book is arranged in a methodical order of subjects (and completed with an alphabetical index) to document ecclesiastical public law, clergy taxation (such as the don gratuit), privileges, and the relations between the Church of France and the monarchy. Prestige grand in-folio volume (41 x 27 cm), printed in two columns, with a title in red and black. Full-period leather bindings, title piece, very large in folio format "41 x 27.5 cm", banners, tailpieces, printed in two columns, spine with decorative raised bands, dampstains, numbering by column, title page in red and black, red edges, vignettes beautifully engraved on title pages, initial letters, a very fine rare 18th-century complete example (see attached photos). Condition: Good overall for its age. Solid antique binding. Wear and dampstains from use. Interior well preserved overall with a handsome decorative presence. (see photos). The work contains numerous illuminated initials, banners, and engraved tailpieces, typical of the great Parisian productions of the 18th century. Pagination: xvi + tables + 1708 pages.
