DRC — TCHOKWE — A carved wooden Pwo female mask with a dark brown patina; the face has delicate, idealized features, marked by geometric scarifications incised on the forehead and cheeks. Almond-shaped, half-closed eyes; an elongated nose; and a slightly parted mouth revealing the teeth. Hairstyle made of braided plant fibers, with metal rings in the ears. Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tchokwe people, first half of the 20th century. Beautiful patina from use. Bears an old collector’s label indicating it was collected in 1948. Height: 25 cm Width: 15 cm Weight: 250 grs
