Double-sided Art Deco Églomisé Glass Sign "Hairdresser –...

Exceptional and authentic double-sided Art Deco-era shop sign (circa 1932), crafted using the refined technique of verre églomisé (paint fixed under glass). This unique object is a true witness to French artisanal history. It adorned the façade of the famous barber shop and gentlemen's salon “Chez Achille,” founded in 1932 by Achille Amilhastre at 62 rue Villefranche in Saint-Girons (Ariège, France). The salon remained a true local institution, operated by the founder's son, Roger Amilhastre (recognized as the oldest active barber in France), who worked there from 1947 until mid-2026, at the age of 92, in a period décor unchanged. Characteristics and visual details: • Face 1 : Inscription “COIFFEUR” in textured silver capital letters with vertical reflecting stripes, placed on a diagonal black band. The background is bi-tone, pairing a vivid red and a dynamic ochre/gold, typical of the modernist graphic design of the 1930s. • Face 2 : Personalized inscription “Chez ACHILLE” reproducing exactly the same graphic codes, colors and light effects. • Technique : Original verre églomisé. The silvered letters captivate light beautifully, whether natural or street lighting. • Structure : The two glass panels are set in their original wrought/patinated metal frame. The frame includes its period side mount allowing perpendicular wall installation (flag-style sign). State of conservation: Superb overall condition for a nearly century-old advertising object that has spent decades outdoors. The glass is intact, with no major cracks. The under-glass paint colors have retained a very fresh look, and the patina of the metal frame is superb. (Please carefully examine the photos, which are an integral part of the description).
