Small in-4 format, publisher’s illustrated hardcover, numerous black-and-white photographic reproductions, text by Jean-Claude Gautrand. ISBN 2-7434-5181-5 / 978-2-7434-5181-3. Your copy is indeed a 2004 edition, identifiable by its own ISBN, and not the 2003 Taschen edition (ISBN 3-8228-1612-4). Bibliographic databases confirm this 2004 edition. A good introductory monograph on Robert Doisneau (1912–1994), written by Jean-Claude Gautrand. The book spans his entire career and brings together his iconic images of Paris and its suburbs: street children, scenes of everyday life, cafés, celebrations, lovers, and people captured in their daily lives. The photographs featured in your copy—*Little Children with Milk*, Gentilly, 1932; *The Brothers*, Paris, 1934; *The Kiss at City Hall*, Paris, 1950; *Hell*, Boulevard de Clichy, 1952 — illustrate this style particularly well. Doisneau remains one of the leading figures of French humanist photography. This edition, however, has a very common and commercial feel. The large label printed “Taschen pour Maxi-Livres” on the front cover makes it less desirable to bibliophiles than some other Taschen editions. The 2003 Taschen edition has approximately 191–192 pages. Very good overall condition. Clean hardcover, corners slightly rubbed, a few minor superficial signs of wear; interior fresh and clean.
