Dirk Koets (1895 -1956) - Hoogaarzen in de haven van Veere

Dirk Jan Koets was born in 1895 in Wissenkerke on Noord-Beveland. In 1905 his parents moved to Gouda. Koets pursued training there as a faience painter. In September 1912 the young Koets departed for the United States. He stayed there with relatives in Sparta, Michigan. Because he was drafted for military service due to the outbreak of World War I and the general mobilization that followed, he returned to the Netherlands in September 1915. After the end of World War I and demobilization in October 1919, Koets began his artistic career. Painting in good condition.
