DEUX-SÈVRES. POITOU. Louis Jacques d'ABBAYE (Melle/ Deux-Sèv - Lot 141

DEUX-SÈVRES. POITOU. Louis Jacques d'ABBAYE (Melle/ Deux-Sèvres 1735 - 1818) Member of the Provincial Assembly of Poitou, Deputy to the Estates-General of 1789 - Autograph letter signed "D'ABBAYE" from MELLE (Deux-Sèvres) May 8, 1774: Monsieur et cher Amy. Immediately upon receipt of your package, and on the same day, we had the intended significations made by Sieurs Garnier and Breton, cy joint and the report which we ask you to do all that will be appropriate with the exactitude and vigilance, of which we know you capable. We do not know whether our adversaries will appear in the arena, but there is reason to believe that they have some purpose, as they have just this morning had the parish priest convene an assembly of parishes for next Sunday... but whatever the outcome, we have nothing to fear from their attempts. Our position of attending all Processions and taking the front row immediately after the officiating Poitou, is as constant as that of receiving the branches and the blessed bread after the Clergy, when we are in our pew in Ceremonial vestments. Finally, the current churchwardens, who have been in office for 4 years, are the only ones who, for the first time, undertook to disturb us on April 17th last... Mr Roman will give you 24 livres to account for this affair, and we ask you to inform us of everything that happens.... My wife sends me many compliments, and we both salute Madame your wife. 2 pages in-4°. 2 pages in-4°.
