Antique Dutch 18th‑century slant-front desk with a rich interior, including a small cellar and secret compartments Offered from a special private collection: an authentic Dutch slant-front desk (waist cabinet) from the 18th century. This desk comes from the parental home of the current owner. The parents were lifelong antiquarians, and this desk was a beloved part of their personal interior, where it occupied a prominent place in the living room for decades. Interior & Secrets: The furniture features a beautifully worked-out 'nest' (interior). In addition to the various drawers and pigeonholes, it contains a central cabinet door and an ingenious little cellar, accessible via a sliding panel. The construction also includes several hidden compartments, a hallmark of high craftsmanship from the 18th century. Condition: The desk is in an honest, authentic state with a wonderful deep patina. As befits a piece of furniture of this age, there are signs of wear and age-related characteristics: • There are a few small gaps/damages in the wood of the fall-front and around the fittings (see detail photos). • The back panel shows a natural warp/crack in the wood. • There are currently no keys available. • The brass fittings are highly detailed and gracefully executed.
