Rolling Stones Concert, Latin America Olé Tour - 2016 Brazil Copacabana, Special Collectors Edition. Concert data of The Rolling Stones in Copacabana, Brazil: The chilling figure of 1.5 million people. That is the number of attendees who enjoyed on February 18, 2006 the free concert that the British band The Rolling Stones performed on the famous Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The London quartet’s performance was framed within the world tour A Bigger Bang to promote its same-named album, released in 2005, which on this side of the world had only two more shows in Argentina. There were three performances in South America, but their visit to the Brazilian beach will be forever marked in music history as one of the most massive concerts ever remembered. It was an event that required an investment of nearly 10 million Brazilian reais (2.5 million dollars), funded by two sponsors and the city’s prefecture. So great was the impact of the performance that city security was tripled to New Year’s Eve levels, with 10,000 police on the streets. The stage stood 24 meters tall (equivalent to an eight-story building) and 70 meters wide. The great peculiarity was that it faced the hotel where the musicians were staying, so a catwalk was built to connect the venue with the backstage. The night with the greatest audience that Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, and Charlie Watts remember on a stage began with “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and “It’s Only Rock ’n’ Roll (But I Like It),” a double-header that electrified the arena and heated up the Rio heat. Fans came from all corners of the world, packed all the city’s hotels and other parts of Brazil, just a week before Rio’s Carnival, the quintessential summer festival in South America. Twenty songs is what the Brits performed not only for the massive beach crowd. The show was broadcast to all of Brazil by radio and TV, while the rest of the world could listen via satellite and Internet and watch in some cinemas in the United States. Among the hits that made it to Copacabana are “Tumbling Dice,” “Wild Horses,” “Miss You,” “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Start Me Up,” and “Brown Sugar.” Although the attendance figure is striking, the Guinness World Records does not include it in its records. For the compilation, the free concert with the highest attendance is Rod Stewart’s at the same Brazilian beach on New Year’s Eve, 1994, with 4.2 million people. The British show lasted about two hours, and, as reported by The New York Times at the time, “in the end, the show went on without major problems. Even the firefighters and security guards near the stage were dancing when the Stones finished the show just before midnight with ‘Satisfaction’.” Their Copacabana visit (together with the two shows in Argentina) were the Stones’ last performances in South America. That is, until now. Because this Wednesday the 3rd, at the National Stadium in Santiago, the Latin American tour will begin, with which they will continue celebrating more than 50 years on stage. Note: The poster will be sent in a reinforced tube duly protected by express courier. The three last photos of the description are only illustrative; they are not included with the poster.
