DENMARK. Rigsdaler Courant, 1788. Copenhagen Mint. Christian VII. NGC MS-65.

onpareil "Travel Taler" of Spectacular Eye Appeal. DENMARK. Rigsdaler Courant, 1788. Copenhagen Mint. Christian VII. NGC MS-65. Dav-1312; KM-645; Hede-25; NMD-1; Sieg-19; Schou-7; FP-E5; Bruun-7892. Weight: 23.57 gms. Mintmaster: Michael Flor (MF). Engraver: Daniel Jensen Adzer (DIA). A blazing, full Gem Luster combined with a delicate toning make this spectacular example rank supreme among all recorded examples of this highly coveted type struck in 5,000 specimens for the Crown Prince Frederik's travel to Norway in June 1788. The beautiful type was created by the highly competent royal medalist, Adzer, who with understandable pride signed his work (D.I.A.) on both the obverse and the reverse. It bears the rather pompous inscription: UROKKELIG SOM DOVRES HØYE FIELDE STAAER NORGES SØNNERS TROSKAB MOD OG VÆLDE ("The sons of Norway's allegiance, courage and might are as adamant as the high mountains of Dovre"). This is the oldest Danish / Norwegian type where the king's name and title as well as the denomination have been written in Danish and not in Latin. Estimate: €10,000 - €15,000.
