DENMARK. Consecration of Christianshavn Church Restrike Silver Medal

DENMARK. Consecration of Christianshavn Church Restrike Silver Medal, ND (1696). Christian V. NGC MS-64. Galster-264/160; JS-473; Bruun-15408. Diameter: 54 mm. Weight: 95 gms. By Christian Wineke(W) / Barthold Meier. Rare mule restrike of this 'lost medal', where only tin and lead strikes of the original are known today. All known restrikes are mules, using an obverse die of Wineke's from 1729 and of Meybusch from 1693. Fully deserving of its high grade, the medal sparkles with luster and golden, multicolor toning in the recesses. On the reverse, a die crack can be seen as on all existing restrikes. The reverse depicts the still standing Christianshavns (Christians Harbor's) Church in Copenhagen, consecrated on April 19, 1696. The Royal Collection held both a gold and a silver example of this medal with Barthold Meier's obverse, but both were stolen in 1806. Estimate: €2,500 - €3,500. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection. To view supplemental information and all items from the L.E. Bruun Collection, click here. Please note: Bid amounts do not include VAT. Buyers which are non-VAT registered entities or individuals who take delivery of lots within EU countries subject to margin scheme taxation will be invoiced a VAT charge and a Buyer’s Premium for a total of 27.5% based upon the total amount of the hammer.
