Deborah Kerr

Cinema and American show business – Lot of 5 photographs with dedications and autographs – mid-20th century Lot consisting of five black-and-white photographs featuring stars of American cinema and show business, each preserved in a wooden frame with mat. The photographs bear handwritten dedications and signatures, apparently made directly on the photographic surface. The inscriptions are addressed to different recipients, a characteristic typical of autograph promotional photos distributed to admirers and collectors during the artists' active period. Among the identifiable figures are Deborah Kerr, renowned British actress and star of Hollywood cinema; Van Johnson, an actor notably associated with MGM; Jo Stafford, American singer and performer; and Bob Crosby, singer, bandleader and brother of Bing Crosby. A fifth photograph depicts another show business figure, whose identity is not stated with certainty. Particularly evocative is the Deborah Kerr photograph, with a dedication penned in red ink, while the others feature inscriptions and signatures in dark/blue tones. The photographs appear predominantly tied to the golden age of American show business in the mid-20th century, roughly 1940s–1960s. The signatures are not accompanied by certificates of authenticity and are therefore offered as present on the photographs and attributed to the depicted figures, without independent autograph certification. The lot is offered as a whole, complete with the current frames and mats.
