De Coene - Sideboard - Oak, Wood

Impressively large Belgian brutalist sideboard dating from the mid- to late 1970s. The piece is finished in dark/black stained wood and features a characteristic geometric front. The front consists of five doors and four drawers. The doors are fitted with rectangular panels containing striking rounded, three-dimensionally worked shapes. This graphic detailing creates a strong play of light and shadow and gives the piece a distinctly sculptural character. Behind the doors there is ample storage space with wooden shelves. The four central drawers provide extra storage. The interior is finished in a warmer wood tone, which forms a nice contrast to the dark exterior. The combination of the heavy construction, dark wood finish, and geometric detailing is characteristic of Belgian brutalist furniture design from the 1970s.
