David Hume - Essais de morale ou recherches sur les...

Rare edition of this collection which takes part in the great philosophical debates of the 18th century on the nature of the good, the foundations of moral judgment and the motivations that orient human actions - Hume, a major figure of the Scottish Enlightenment, seeks to understand how human beings distinguish praiseworthy conduct from condemnable behavior, without resting all morality on religion, tradition or abstract rational principles - His reflection rests on the observation of human nature, feelings, habits and social relationships, considered as the essential elements from which our moral evaluations are formed - From this perspective, reason allows comparing facts, examining the consequences of actions and determining the means appropriate to an end, but it does not suffice, on its own, to explain why certain actions elicit our approval while others provoke our indignation - David Hume - Essays on Morality or Investigations into the Principles of Morality - 1760 - J. H. Schneider - Good condition of the binding, work in its original half-leather, signs of use, a few minor defects on the cover, top edge missing, gilding on the spine faded, joints and corners worn, speckled edges, back with raised bands ornamented, gilded lettering - Good interior condition, a few stains, title page printed in red and black and adorned with a beautiful vignette, pretty headbands, nice drop cap, endpapers in decent condition, pleasant copy - Delivery service guaranteed within a few days –
