Daniel Zuloaga - Sculpture

An exceptional cylindrical glazed ceramic vase by master potter Daniel Zuloaga Boneta (1852-1921), a leading figure of Spanish pottery at the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The piece, richly decorated around its entire circumference, features an exquisite genre and architectural scene, highlighting emblematic views of the city of Segovia: the Roman Aqueduct and the Cathedral, framed by arches and columns. In the scene a classic figure of a Castilian peasant on horseback is integrated. Technique: Polychrome-glazed ceramic, highlighting the coppery, blue, and greenish tones characteristic of the San Juan de los Caballeros workshop, on a base of natural glaze crazing. Signatures and marks: Incised signature "Zuloaga" clearly visible on the base. Dimensions: 38 cm in height, 11.5 cm diameter at the base, 9 cm diameter at the neck. Condition: Very good overall for its age. It preserves the original glaze gloss with its kiln-fired crazing. It shows a minimal superficial chip on the hidden edge of the base (visible in the attached photographs), which does not affect the stability or the appearance of the piece on display. No later restorations.
