Dance mask - Democratic Republic of the Congo (No reserve price)

The Lega mask mainly comes from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, among the Lega (Warega), mostly settled in the eastern part of the country. Function: it is associated with Bwami, an initiatory institution that organizes social, moral, and spiritual life. Shape: Lega masks are often small in size, with a stylized face, geometric features, and a deliberately abstract appearance. Materials: wood, fibers, pigments, and sometimes other natural materials. Symbolism: the mask does not merely represent a human face; its form can convey proverbs, teachings, and moral values to initiates.
