Damiani - 'Ego' - Automatic Tonneau - Swiss Movement - Italian Design - Ref

Welcome to my Top Swiss Wrist Watches Boutique: Here’s a clear history and overview of the Damiani watches brand — part of the larger Italian luxury group known primarily for high-end jewelry and, since the late 20th century, also for watches and horology: Damiani was founded in 1924 in Valenza, Italy by Enrico Grassi Damiani, a master goldsmith. Originally a family-run luxury jewelry house — recognized for handcrafted pieces and Italian design excellence. The company is still family-managed, now led by descendants of the founder across generations. Damiani built its reputation on jewelry craftsmanship and artistic creativity, growing from its Valenza workshop to an international presence with boutiques worldwide. Damiani expanded into watches as a natural extension of its luxury craftsmanship, producing high-end timepieces that echo its jewelry heritage. The watch collections reflect the brand’s aesthetics, often inspired by jewelry motifs and fine artisanship. Examples of Damiani watch lines include models like: Ego Mimosa Damianissima Belle Époque Eden Notte di San Lorenzo D. Side Chronograph These are typically luxury watches, often incorporating precious metals, unique designs, and fine finishes — consistent with the brand’s jewelry roots. From the 1990s onward, Damiani significantly expanded internationally, opening branded boutiques and flagship stores in cities such as Milan, Paris, Tokyo, New York, and others. The group also owns Rocca 1794, a major Italian multi-brand retailer of luxury watches and jewelry, helping promote Damiani watches in key markets. In 2026, the Damiani Group announced the acquisition of the historic Swiss watchmaker Baume & Mercier from Richemont — a significant step into traditional Swiss horology and broader watchmaking influence. This signals Damiani’s strengthened commitment to watchmaking, pairing Italian design with established Swiss watch heritage. Damiani watches are generally positioned as luxury timepieces that combine Italian artistry, fine materials, and elegance rather than being primarily technical watchmaker offerings like purely Swiss brands. They often appeal to buyers who value design, craftsmanship, and fashion-oriented luxury in wristwatches. Damiani watches aren’t just accessories; they are an extension of nearly a century of Italian luxury craftsmanship that began with jewelry and expanded into horology. While not traditionally known as a hardcore Swiss movement house, Damiani’s watch collections reflect the brand’s design philosophy, and recent strategic moves — like acquiring Baume & Mercier — demonstrate a growing commitment to the world of fine watchmaking.
