State: Headcaps, corners in good condition, hinges solid, 2 corners worn, spine smooth adorned with gilt fleurons and title pieces (title-piece fore-edge pieces missing), rare foxing, marbled edges. Complete in 2 volumes. Copy in good condition of this original edition of the French translation. • Original author: William Cullen (Professor of Practical Medicine at the University of Edinburgh). • Translator: Philippe Pinel (then a young physician in Paris, future pioneer of modern psychiatry). This translation marks one of Pinel's early major entries into the French medical intellectual life, familiarizing him with Cullen's nosology of diseases, which he would go on to reform.
