Collier Croix des Ossuaires – Memento Mori et Cryptes – Force des Anciens. A lava-stone necklace bearing the great ossuary cross adorned with memento mori skulls, a powerful talisman of crypts forged to brave the unknown and move forward with the sovereign strength of the ancients. Under the stone vaults of medieval crypts and Europe’s grand ossuaries, silence preserves the memory of those who faced time. In underground sanctuaries and Capuchin chapels, the arrangement of sacred bones formed a bastion of reflection, affirming the soul’s victory over matter and the sovereignty of the spirit over oblivion. This cross of the crypts draws directly from the solemn tradition of Memento Mori. Shaped as an assemblage of forged massive-point nails, it raises on its vertical axis a column of five skulls watching like impassive sentinels. This ancestral guard reminds that finitude is not a weakness, but a moral armor enabling one to face the world without fear and to dominate any adversity. Wearing this ossuary cross is to seize the resolve of the guardians of the shadow: a fortress of composure and memory to hold one’s ground in the face of storms and walk without ever faltering. Dimensions: - necklace length: 57 cm. - weight: 67 g. - lava stone beads: 0.8 cm (approx). - intricately crafted silver metal pendant: 7.8 x 4.1 cm. Superb quality. - Punched sterling silver spring clasp. 925 silver ring. Mounted on a nylon-coated Japanese steel thread. - Necklace handmade with care. History & Secrets of the Symbol: The Ossuaries Cross: The Sanctuary of Memento Mori Inspired by historic great ossuaries such as Sedlec’s and Rome’s Capuchin Crypt, this cross recalls the Christian and monastic tradition of contemplating eternity. In sacred art, the skull is not a mark of terror, but the emblem of absolute lucidity that frees man from the fear of the unknown. The Column of the Five Skulls: The Sentinel of the Ancients Aligned along the vertical shaft, the five skulls form a continuous chain linking the underground world to the light. In crypt symbolism, this column represents the succession of generations and the protection of ancestors, granting the wearer unwavering moral firmness in the face of trials. The Forged Medieval Nails: The Barrier Against Disorder The ends of the cross reprise the shape of wrought-iron nails from medieval times, symbols of fixation and enclosure. This robust structure acts as a symbolic lock, sealing the determination of the mind and barring passage to doubt and confusion. The Lava Stone: The Telluric Shield and Mineral Power Originating from the earth’s telluric power, lava stone is traditionally associated with endurance and courage in hostile environments. Renowned for absorbing tension and preserving composure, its raw material provides a sober and solid base that fits perfectly with the cryptic universe. The shots were taken under LED lighting with dedicated photographic equipment to faithfully reproduce the object’s details, reliefs, and nuances. Some precious and semi-precious stones may undergo traditional treatments intended to enhance their color or translucency. No specific gemological examination has been performed on this piece.
