Coquet - Box - Double-Opening Display - Wood, Brass - Decorative Medallion

It is a 19th-century box in full Napoleonic III style, and the first thing it reveals is that theatrical contrast between the deep black of the body and the warm shine of the ornamental metals. The lid features a richly decorated central medallion, where mother-of-pearl provides an iridescent glint that changes with the light, while the ormolu —that finely worked gilt bronze— and the brass draw scrollwork, curves and small arabesques that frame the motif as if it were a gemstone inlaid. It is a typically French ornamentation: elegant, meticulous and with that touch of accessible luxury that defined the Second Empire. The exterior structure, lacquered in black, preserves the serenity and the characteristic shine of prestige boxes of the era. The front escutcheon maintains its original shape, discreet yet perfectly integrated into the composition. The piece is especially interesting for its double opening, a feature less common that adds functionality and an air of mechanical ingenuity, typical of workshops that sought to surprise the user with practical solutions wrapped in refinement. The state of conservation is remarkable: the gold lines remain sharp, the mother-of-pearl retains its luminosity, and the surface keeps that soft patina that only well-cared-for objects develop over time. Taken together, it is a box that embodies the essence of domestic luxury of the Second Empire, where every detail —material, color, shine, proportion— is designed to seduce. Certified shipping and good packaging.
