We first encounter jewellery in the form of golden baskets filled with blossoms in the mid-18th century. As part of the so-called "Giardinetto fashion", the floral arrangements were particularly well suited to the playful and sensual era of the Rococo. But also in the following centuries the pretty motif of the flower basket experienced renaissances again and again. The precious example presented here dates back to the heyday of flower brooches in the 1950s and was made in Germany. The brooch presents a colourful bouquet of flowers made of various colorful tourmalines, diamonds and pearls. We see two large flowers made of tourmaline, one is green, the other is pink. Small diamonds are set in the centers of each flower. Another green tourmaline and another pink tourmaline are round cut part of the arrangement. A third large flower of seven cultured pearls shows above a gold leaf next to the curved handle of the basket. The basket is made of polished yellow gold, while a diamond-studded hem of white gold finishes the basket's rim. Thus, the piece of jewellery is reminiscent of a warm summer day and never presents wilting flowers made of fine gemstones. A precious piece of jewellery from the optimistic time of the economic miracle, which found its way to us from Hamburg!
