CK Carbonaceous Chondrite METEORITE

CK Carbonaceous Chondrite METEORITE

Much less common than their ordinary chondrite sisters, carbonaceous chondrites represent 5% of the meteorites that reach Earth. They are characterized by the presence of carbon in their composition—in other words, their name—usually in the form of organic compounds such as amino acids. In addition, carbonaceous chondrites often contain water or minerals that indicate they have been altered by its presence. With a dark and generally abundant matrix, they are the oldest meteorites known and therefore the oldest material you could ever hold in your hands. CK meteorites are carbonaceous chondrites with a matrix in dark gray tones, sometimes slightly greenish, with abundant chondrules that can range from type 3 to 6, with an average diameter of 1 mm, i.e., somewhat smaller than CVs and larger than COs (the carbonaceous family with which they are related). They sometimes contain sizable CAIs. Additionally, some CK members exhibit shock veins that indicate a violent history for their parent body or an impact history. Furthermore, the specimen from this lot has a nice shape and size, and a fusion crust over much of its exterior, something difficult to find in this type of carbonaceous chondrites. On the other hand, we can observe areas coated with a beige-colored layer called caliche, which indicates the position where the meteorite was found—the zone in contact with the ground. Ideal for a great collection or museum. All our meteorites come with an IMCA (International Meteorite Collectors Association) certificate, ensuring the authenticity of all our meteorites for life. Buy with guarantees. Best regards and our very best wishes. CRATER METEORITES
