Circle of Jean-Victor Bertin (French, 1767-1842), A Classical Landscape Depicting figures along a path with a Greek temple and buildings and a mountain beyond. Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 13 in. x 16 in.; 18 3/4 in. x 22 in. (framed) Another version of this composition, sold at Dreweatts, identifies the scene as a view of Pheneos and the temple of Minerva Caphyes. A large canvas was exhibited by Bertin at the Paris Salon of 1801. Condition Canvas later lined. Old ink inscription on stretcher. Surface stable with craquelure throughout. A few scattered areas of inpainting visible under UV light. Giltwood frame with some minor scattered chips and losses to gesso and gilding.
