Circa 1970s Stylish Mr Freedom Gents Three Piece Trouser Suit, Circa 1970s Stylish Mr Freedom Gents Three Piece Trouser Suit in a grey, white, red and black large check, the single breasted jacket with red satin trim, front pockets, two button fastening, red lining, matching waistcoat with button fastening and trousers with waistband, all three items bearing Mr Freedom label Mr Freedom was a boutique opened by designer Tommy Roberts and his partner Trevor Myles in 1969. Named after the 1969 spoof film by the same name, Mr Freedom represented the counter culture of the Swinging Sixties, selling fashion and furniture by a number of young designers. The shop embraced all things bright, outrageous and kitschy, a stark departure from Robert’s previous, hippie themed boutique, Kleptomania. At Mr Freedom, winged shoes, a T-shirt dress with a satin appliqué of an ice cream or a jersey top with Donald Duck silk screened on would not be out of place. Some of Roberts clients included Pablo Picasso, Freddie Mercury and Elton John for whom he designed a yellow boiler suit adorned with a piano appliqué. While Mr Freedom was short lived, closing in 1972, the label had a profound impact on the fringe culture of the time.
