Interesting lottery consisting of 15 original period-epoca numbers of “Lo Sport Illustrato”, weekly supplement of La Gazzetta dello Sport, published between 1949 and 1952. A collection strongly devoted to the great post-war cycling, with covers and features on the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France, Giro di Lombardia, World Championships and the era’s major protagonists, including Fausto Coppi, Gino Bartali, Hugo Koblet, Fiorenzo Magni, Serafino Biagioni and other champions. The lot includes: 1. 2 June 1949 – Year 38, no. 22 – Now the Dolomites – Giro d’Italia 2. 7 July 1949 – Year 38, no. 27 – The Tour, flames in the plain – Tour de France 3. 1 June 1950 – Year 39, no. 22 – On Swiss laurels the Giro rests in Locarno 4. 8 June 1950 – Year 39, no. 23 – On the Dolomites – recall “Coppi has fallen” 5. 8 June 1950 – Year 39, no. 23 – second copy of the same issue 6. 15 June 1950 – Year 39, no. 24 – The Giro d’Italia at Koblet 7. 20 July 1950 – Year 39, no. 29 – Cadets without fear – photo chronicle of the Tour 8. 17 August 1950 – Year 39, no. 32 – The World Cycling Championships in Belgium 9. 26 October 1950 – Year 39, no. 42 – Coppi at the Ghisallo and Soldani at the Vigorelli, Giro di Lombardia 10. 17 May 1951 – Year 40, no. 20 – eve of the Giro d’Italia 11. 24 May 1951 – Year 40, no. 21 – A frenetic Giro 12. 7 June 1951 – Year 40, no. 23 – Towards the Dolomites 13. 12 July 1951 – Year 40, no. 28 – Serafino Biagioni yellow jersey in Caen 14. 9 August 1951 – Year 40, no. 32 – Between Gino and Alfredo has the polemic closed? – Bartali and Binda 15. 13 March 1952 – Year 41, no. 11 – Fausto Coppi at the Paris Six Days Particularly interesting are the numbers dedicated to the dramatic Dolomite stage of the 1950 Giro with Coppi’s fall, Koblet’s final victory, the Tour de France, the Giro di Lombardia and Coppi’s figure in the golden years of Italian cycling. The great photographic covers perfectly convey the atmosphere of the so-called heroic cycling, making the lot interesting both for the sports periodical collector and for the cycling history enthusiast. Conditions Original period exemplars in varying conditions, as clearly documented by the photographs. Present, depending on the issue, normal and more marked signs due to age and use: yellowing and oxidation of the paper, creases, folds, small tears, wear and small losses at edges and corners. Some covers are better preserved than others. The photographs are an integral part of the description and show the actual condition of each exemplar.
