Highest Graded Peking $5 Remainder in PMG 45 CHINA--FOREIGN BANKS. Deutsch-Asiatische Bank. 5 Dollars, 1.3.1907. P-S273r. S/M#T101-2b. Remainder. PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45. Peking. A very scarce and popular remainder from this branch. Although it has been graded Extremely Fine, a look at the population report reveals that this is the SINGLE FINEST of the select group of remainders of this issue that have been graded. The note does have some folds, as can be expected for the grade, but its eye appeal is strong and is the best available. The Peking branch also issued notes denominated in Taels, although this particular example is denominated in (Mexican) Silver Dollars, which were the currency of choice for international trade even in the early 20th century, as they had been for most of the 19th century. An exceptional opportunity for the specialist to acquire a note from this heavily collected foreign bank that would continue to exist long after German influence in China had ceased. Estimate: $5,000 - $8,000.
