CHINA. Chang Hsi-Iuan/First Class Silver Medal, Year 1 (1912). PCGS

Exceptional Chang Hsi-Iuan Military Medal with Giorgi's Signature CHINA. Chang Hsi-Iuan/First Class Silver Medal, Year 1 (1912). PCGS Genuine--Mounts Removed, AU Details. L&M-938; cf. K-pl. 191 (copper); KMX-M520; WS-0128A. Signed "L. GIORGI". Diameter: 40mm. Obverse: Military bust facing slightly left; Reverse: Crossed and garlanded banners within wreath. Already an enticing type on account of its designer, Luigi Giorgi, this VERY RARE type in silver was issued for the first class and is the first such example in the metal that we have had since a gilt silver specimen, graded PCGS AU Details, which realized a total of $45,600 in our September 2021 Hong Kong Auction (Lot # 21622). Though this too has received a details designation, it can easily be discounted on account of it being a mount removal--rather typical for a military award--and also on account of its wonderful overall appearance, with some hints of burnished iridescence near a portion of the peripheries. Estimate: $20,000 - $40,000. Provenance: From the MC Collection (陳氏家族集藏). To view all items from the MC Collection (陳氏家族集藏), click here. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
