CHIMU BLACKWARE FIGURE VESSEL

Ca. AD 1000 - 1470 > A Chimu blackware vessel with a rounded body on a short foot, surmounted by a modelled figure. A projecting spout is joined to the sculptural upper section by a bridge. Chimu potters on Peru's north coast developed a distinctive tradition of dark, often mould-made vessels. Modelled figures and textured surfaces connected containers with a wider visual world of people, animals and supernatural imagery. > > Size: 230mm x 190mm; Weight: 1.12kg > Provenance: Ex.
