Chess table - Wardrobe - Wood

It is a chess table that blends functionality, craftsmanship, and a fully domestic charm typical of the second half of the 20th century, when this kind of furniture-game was conceived both to be used and to decorate. The board, integrated into the lid, shows a chessboard of contrasting woods, warm and well-polished, with that soft shine that only years and careful use give. The squares are not mere squares: they have a almost graphic presence, as if the board formed part of the table’s overall design and not an add-on. The pieces, handcrafted, reveal small variations in turning and proportion that give them character and humanity. The overall tones — deep black against yellowed ivory — create an elegant and classic contrast. Under the lid hides the inner cabinet, a detail very typical of these mid- to late‑20th‑century tables: practical, discreet, and designed to store the pieces, other games, or small objects. That hidden space makes the table a more complete piece of furniture, not just an elevated board. The wooden structure, with its decorative panels and pronounced grains, adds an almost traditional air, as if the table belonged to a salon where the game and conversation were part of the daily ritual. It is not an ostentatious piece, but warm, approachable, and well-made, with that balance between utility and beauty that defines many pieces of furniture from the era. Certified shipping and good packaging.
