Charonia tritonis – Giant Triton – 416 mm – Vietnam Giant...

A large natural specimen of Charonia tritonis from Vietnam, characterized by substantial proportions and a particularly commanding presence. With a length of 416 mm, a width of 218 mm and a depth of 151 mm, weighing 1,500 grams, this shell falls within the range of the species’ large specimens. The morphology is that typical of the Indo-Pacific Giant Triton: a tall, progressively tapering spire leads to a highly developed final whorl, while the exterior surface is traversed by robust spiral ribs, growth lines, and concentric ridges. Particularly spectacular is the large flared opening, wide and deep, with an interior of intense orange-red color. The contrast with the light edge and with the brown striations along the margin and the columella makes the specimen highly decorative. Charonia tritonis is one of the largest predatory gastropods of Indo-Pacific coral reefs and is also known for predation of the crown-of-thorns starfish, Acanthaster. The specimen shows the natural growth characteristics typical of a large-size shell, with slight irregularities and superficial marks visible in the photographs. A particularly interesting piece for conchology collections, Wunderkammer, natural history cabinets, and striking decorative environments. Species: Charonia tritonis (Linnaeus, 1758) Common name: Giant Triton / Triton’s Trumpet Family: Charoniidae Origin: Vietnam Dimensions: 416 × 218 × 151 mm Weight: 1,500 g Type: natural shell for collectio
